Welcome to Computer Science.
It’s awesome, it’s everywhere, it’s for everyone. Today, every technology and field is under the umbrella of Computer Science. Everyone in this world is interacting with and affected by this technology every day, no matter who you are. You can learn computer science to harness the Power of this technology, and apply it to whatever interests you. Computer science is affecting every industry and every field. It’s really affecting every aspect of our modern life. Computer science is all about Innovation, this technology allows you to create things that exist in the world that are being used every day—for example, Apps, social media, AI, etc. Computer science is basically all the innovations that are impactful on our everyday lives.
Course Objectives:
AP Computer Science Principles is intended to simulate an introductory college computing course. This course demonstrates the relevance of computer science by highlighting the importance of computing in society. Students will utilize Big 5 ideas central to computer science to sharpen their computational skills by analyzing, visualizing, planning, and drawing conclusions from trends in large data sets. Students are asked to think creatively to solve problems and analyze computer data to forecast a future trend. This class will learn how computer science and technology affect today’s society. Scholars will study machine language and programming language; they will learn how to convert binary number systems to decimal systems. Also, Students will develop computational thinking skills necessary for success in many disciplines such as software or platforms, and other online apps to write algorithms in Python program language. The course endeavors to teach students to be creative and to use the creative process to solve computational problems. Students will construct and implement solutions to complex problems like what computer scientists and computer engineers do. Finally, students will be learning how to create apps and get students prepared for the College Board Exam.
Staying relevant to students while preparing them to be successful in the future is the winning formula that all teachers hope for in their objective curriculum. I am Sokha Tee, also known as Mr. Tee or Coach Tee in Compton Unified School District. I teach AP Computer Science, Computer Graphic Design, Web Design, Computer Programming, and Game Design at Compton High School. I also engage in extra-curricular activities after school like STEM/STEAM. My responsibilities are to create a curriculum for all class information, and assist students with the entire learning experience, also including teaching them how to code in Python to excel in our Robotic and Esports teams in our school. I have developed our high school students to be successful in a STEM program such as Robotic and Esports teams for the last five years. Our Compton’s Esports team has gone to the 4th District Championship in a row. We have earned the 4-PEAT Esports District Championship from 2019 to 2023. I have strived to elevate our technological culture to be a competitive school in a district.
